History of Our Program

In the spring of 1997, the planning of the first ever Southeast Asian Water Festival in Lowell, Massachusetts was under way. During the planning stages, an environmental sub-committee was established. The main goal was to organize environmental educational booths and activities during the event to educate the Southeast Asian population of various environmental and health related issues in Lowell.

The committee came up with the idea to recruit youths of Southeast Asian background to assist with the logistics of the event. This allowed the students to connect with the culture and and become more involved with community events. The teens who volunteered their time and energy to this event... and the rest is history.
